Photoshop 2014 – New Features and My Favourites

Photoshop 2014Today saw Adobe make an upgrade to it’s Creative Cloud and with it some great new updates to Photoshop. In this video I take a look just a few of my favourites. There’s loads more, there’s a comprehensive list below the video.

 

 

 

Major features:

  1. Blur Gallery motion effects (Path Blur and Spin Blur)
  2. Enhanced Type tools (font search, replace missing fonts with Typekit, browse Typekit fonts, instant font preview)
  3. Smarter Smart Guides (only when duplicating an object)
  4. Improved Layer Comps (sync comps, select displayed comps in Smart Objects, new icons in panel to show what is tracked)
  5. Focus Mask
  6. Smart Objects improvements (Convert Embedded to Linked, Package Linked SO)
  7. Enhanced Content-Aware technology with Color Blending (better color and gradient blending, up to 400% faster)
  8. Expanded 3D printing capabilities (wider printer support, print in multi-tone, view mesh repair)
  9. Improved brush strokes and expanded stylus support on Windows 8
  10. Improved Mercury Graphic Engine (OpenCL for Upsampling)

Other improvements and JDI:

  • Experimental Feature Manager
  • Simplified Sync Settings experience
  • Sync Settings now support syncing Workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, and menu customizations
  • Basic SVG export supported through Generator (add .svg extension to vector layers)
  • Ability to export to a subfolder through Generator
  • Layer Copy CSS now supports Inner Shadow layer effects
  • Smart Guides now on by default
  • Added highlight to brushes to show last selected brush, and when modified
  • Access most recently used Brush Presets in Brush context menu and Brush Presets panel
  • Spectrum color picker in the Color Panel is now resizeable
  • New Hue and Brightness color picker cubes in Color Panel
  • Added ability to export 3D LUTs
  • Allow gradients with a single stop (saved single stop gradients will not work with previous Photoshop versions)
  • Allow transparency dithering in gradients
  • Create new gradient stop sampled from current gradient preview (option-click in preview)
  • Native support (import only) for MPEG-2 and Dolby audio
  • Support for new video formats including Sony RAW and Canon RAW
  • Added Pin Edges to Liquify for warping in from the image edges
  • ’Reset All Tools’ also resets the toolbar slots to their default position
  • Very large PNG support (up to Photoshop maximum and 2 GB limit)
  • Improved wording for new document preset dialog
