Photoshop Paste Special Menu Commands

In this video I take a look at a the Paste Special menu options. Sure, you can use Photoshop never knowing about them but when you do, you’ll be pleased they can be part of your workflow.

I’ll be taking a look at;

Paste Into
Paste Outside and
Paste In Place

  2. Good one, Eric! As I was watching, I thought of one use of Paste Outside; perhaps for applying a texture to a building by selecting only the windows, which would be much quicker than making the selection around them.

  3. I had a similar thought and tried it with a building and a double decker bus. In both counts I found it easier to select the non windows, so I’m thinking I’m missing a quick selection technique?

  4. Hi Eric,

    A good, clear, run-through of Past Special commands, thank you. They save a step or two over just creating masks manually.

    One use for “past outside”. Create a Text layer, ctl-click text to select, Make your copy of an another image (let’s say it’s a pattern) and “paste outside”. This creates a new layer with the pattern but with the text mask on the pattern layer.

    No big deal but saves a step or two.

  5. Hmm, probably not the QST. I was thinking Polygonal Lasso, or if the image is square-on, the Rectangular Marquee.
